Obong University was licensed by the Federal Government on the recommendation of the NUC on May 27, 2007.

It is built on Christian values and the highest standards of academic excellence.
Other programmes offered in the university apart from the five newly approved programmes include: Accountancy, Economics, Biochemistry, Computer Science and Microbiology.
The institution is located in Etim Ekpo Local Government and is one of the two privately-owned universities in Akwa Ibom State.

The institution just introduced five new programmes which are to be offered at the Bachelors level include: Public Administration, International Relations, Political Science, Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, and Sociology.
